Mount Hotham's first ski lift was a rope tow built by alpine enthuisiast in 1951. Since then it has evolved to become a leading alpine destination, with a huge range of quality ski lifts, accommodation and resort facilities.

Mount Hotham Ski Holidays

It is a unique resort in that the village is at the top of the mountain, so the first thing you do of a morning is ski or ride down, rather than waiting for the first lift. Hotham is known as offering the most challenging terrain of the Australian ski resorts, with 40% being classed as advanced. The Heavenly Valley area is almost all black terrain, or for the really brave head to the 'Extreme Skiing Zone' off the Gotcha Chair Lift. There is still lots on offer for intermediates and beginners. The Orchard provides lots of choice pplus a chance for some fun between the trees, or if you are just starting out, the Summit chair or the Big D and Easy Street is the place to be.

Mt Hotham Accommodation

The accommodation in Hotham is spread out over a large area, and includes lodges, apartments and hotels. Resort shuttles operate and can get you to your starting point each morning. The village of Dinner Plain, 10km from Hotham provides some alternative accommodation. Guests staying in Dinner Plain only need to pay resort entry fees when they go up to Hotham as Dinner Plain is outside the National Park boundary.

Getting to Mt Hotham

Hotham has its own airport which is served by QantasLink with direct flights to the snow from Sydney in peak winter season. Hotham is approximately 5 hours drive from Melbourne and two hours from Albury Airport.
